Associate Professor of Teaching in Mathematics
Annette Pilkington graduated from University College Dublin with a M.A. in mathematics in 1986 and completed her Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Notre Dame in 1991. Her research interests include group theory, number theory and representation theory. Having seen how an understanding of probability and basic statistics helped many of the athletes in her classes and the widespread interest in applications of mathematics to sports among her students, Pilkington decided to develop a full course on mathematics in sports at Notre Dame. She also teaches first year courses in calculus and finite mathematics and leads a teaching seminar for graduate students each spring. In addition to her love of mathematics, Pilkington enjoys teaching classes in traditional karate.
