About Me

Amanda R. Martinez is an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies and Sociology at Davidson College. Professor Martinez’s teaching and research focus on media effects, stereotypes, identity, and inter-group communication. Recent publications include an article in Mass Communication & Society, Latino Audiences, Racial/Ethnic Identification, and Responses to Stereotypical Comedy, and an article in The Howard Journal of Communications, News Framing of Obama, Racialized Scrutiny, and Symbolic Racism. Professor Martinez is currently working on a book project, Navigating Fine Lines: Diverse Audiences Respond to Race-Based Comedy, that explores the effects of stereotypes in comedy entertainment media on racially and ethnically diverse audiences.
