Team leader of natural hazard monitoring at Icelandic Meteorological Office
My research focuses on seismology and volcanoes with the aim of understanding the structure and underlying processes in order to improve hazard assessments. Since volcanoes are complex, it is important to do a joint interpretation of different volcanic datasets to improve our understanding of their behavior and embrace broad collaboration.
I coordinate the earthquake monitoring at the Icelandic Meteorological Office and lead the operation monitoring team. The Meteorological Office is responsible for monitoring natural hazards in Iceland and communication to the public, the civil protection, the aviation authorities, and other stakeholders. I completed a Ph.D. in Seismology from Uppsala University in Sweden and have worked as a seismologist and coordinator at the Icelandic Meteorological Office (national volcano observatory) since 2013.
