Yong Luo

About Me

Dr Yong Luo dedicates himself to the physical sciences and policy research of climate change, including past climate change, climate change detection and attribution, development of earth system model, climate change simulation and projection. He has extensive experience in wind and solar energy studies, including assessment of the wind and solar energy resources in China and the numerical prediction system of wind power generation for wind farms. From 2010-2011, he worked as Sherpa for UN Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-moon’s High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability.

He is currently Vice Chair of China WCRP/CliC and IUGG/IACS and the Vice Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Climate Change Research. He was one of the Lead Authors of first, second and third National Assessment Report of Climate Change in China, and the Fourth Assessment Report of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group I (WG1 AR4). After 2005 he coauthored over 150 journal papers and 12 books on climate change and sustainable development. He was awarded special allowance by the State Council of China in 2008 and he was a member of Nobel Peace Prize-Winning IPCC Team in 2007.
