EdX Selects RPNow by Software Secure to provide remote proctoring for the Global Freshman Academy

Innovative approach to exam security offers highly scalable, reliable and efficient remote proctoring, providing students with a convenient and affordable alternative to testing centers while safeguarding the integrity of the program for the institution.

NEWTON MA — May 18, 2015 EdX, the leading nonprofit online learning initiative and Software Secure, the recognized leader in secure, computer-based testing solutions today announced a collaboration that will provide students enrolled in the Global Freshman Academy, the new offering from edX and Arizona State University (ASU), with the ability to take a remote proctored exam using RPNow, powered by Software Secure. RPNow is an innovative remote proctoring system that allows students to take a test at any time and from any location.

RPNow combines convenience with the assurance of catching any violations of exam integrity by using Software Secure’s efficient record and review model. This combination leads to the most cost-effective method of insuring program integrity on the market that best meets the needs of students.

“We are delighted to work with Software Secure to provide virtual proctoring for edX courses,” said Anant Agarwal, CEO, edX. “They have been a trusted partner in our verified certificate program since 2013, ensuring the identity of each student. This new proctoring solution is an important next step in providing a secure and verified learning environment for those students interested in credit bearing courses.”

“Software Secure has a long and outstanding history working with the global education community to make test taking more convenient and secure for institutions who offer distance education programs, “ said Douglas M. Winneg, CEO & Founder, Software Secure. “We’re excited to be partnering with edX to provide remote proctoring and are committed to helping to build integrity and excellence into the Global Freshman Academy.”

Agarwal explains, “Our recent announcement with ASU of the Global Freshman Academy offers students the option of receiving college credit on successful completion of an online course on edX. To ensure the integrity of academic credit, in addition to verifying the identity of the student, we now need to verify the integrity of the test itself. Software Secure’s RPNow system does both and is the ideal solution for the edX platform.”
