In addition to completing 48 graduate-level credits and activities in the counseling lab, learners will also engage in a 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship at any NYU-approved school in or near their community.
100-hour practicum
Apply classroom theory to real-world settings under the guidance of a certified school counselor for eight to 10 hours per week (100 hours per term). Practice directly with clients for 40 hours of your 100 total hours. All practicums start in the spring terms and can begin as early as the second term.
600-hour internship
Complete 300 internship hours per term, three full days or 19 hours per week, under the supervision of a certified school counselor. Internships take place across two sites to comply with K-8 and 9-12 requirements and include 240 hours of direct practice. All internships start in the fall terms and can begin as early as the first term.
