Sergio Lacambra

Principal Specialist, Disaster Risk Management at Inter-American Development Bank

About me

Sergio Lacambra is Principal Specialist in Disaster Risk Management at the Inter-American Development Bank, with 25 years of professional experience in Latin America and the Caribbean. He has been the team leader of numerous policy-based and investment loans in Peru, Colombia, Panama, Bolivia, and supervises natural disasters contingent credit facilities in Peru, Panama, Suriname, and Argentina. He currently coordinates the Disaster Risk Management Cluster in the Environment, Rural Development and Disaster Risk Management Division. He was responsible for the team of experts that designed the Index of Governance and Public Policy in Disaster Risk Management (iGOPP) and for its application in the 26 IDB borrowing member countries. He is co-author of the disaster risk screening and analysis methodology that the IDB applies to all its infrastructure projects to ensure their resilience. Before joining the IDB, Sergio was responsible for the humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness operations financed by the European Union in Central America (2004-2009) and South America (2001-2004). He also worked as National Director of a private foundation (Action Aid) in Honduras (1997-2001). He started his professional career in the Brazilian Amazon, as environmental economist. He holds a Master´s Degree in Economics from the University of London, an Erasmus Diploma in Economics from the University of Bristol (UK), and an Economics Degree from the University of Zaragoza (Spain).
