After receiving his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at University College London working on understanding the role of ATP on embryonic development, he pursued his first postdoctoral training at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney studying the renewal mechanisms of skeletal muscle stem cells. He also worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, focusing on developmental neuroscience and myogenesis before joining the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Alex’s research interest is on dynamic gene expression pattern during different stages of cell differentiation and maturation, the pathophysiology of tissue injury as well as mechanisms during tissue regeneration in cell and animal models. Apart from research, Alex also participates in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with particular focusing on cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, as well as in the development of the nervous system.
