Andrea Schmidt is Professor of Near Eastern Christian Studies at the Oriental Institute of the University of Louvain (UCL), Belgium. She has specialized in Syriac, Armenian and Georgian studies. Her main interests are the religious and literary transmissions between the Syriac Semitic world of Christianity and the Christian civilisations in the Caucasus. She was appointed to the Francqui Chair at the University of Leuven (2008). She is member of the Academy of Sciences at Göttingen (Germany) and member of the Patristic Kommission of the German Academies of Sciences at Mayence (Germany). She is editor of the series “
Corpus Scriptorum Christianorum Orientalium” (Peeters Publishers, Leuven).
