Professor of Civil Engineering; Professor of Mechanical Engineering (by courtesy) at Purdue University
Thanos Tzempelikos is a Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University, and a Faculty member of the Center for High Performance Buildings (industry-university consortium). He holds a B.Sc. in Physics from the National University of Athens, Greece in 1999 and a M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degree in Building Engineering from Concordia University in Montreal in 2001 and 2005 respectively.
His research is focused on design and control of dynamic building facades, integrated thermal and daylighting analysis of buildings, indoor environmental comfort and personalized preferences, model-based building controls with integrated sensing and radiant systems operation. He has published more than 150 articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings in the field, and he participates in several technical committees and review panels for professional organizations, US and foreign governments, research institutions, international conferences and editorial boards of scientific journals.
Prof. Tzempelikos has received multiple awards, including the ASHRAE New Investigator Award, the Concordia Faculty of Engineering Doctoral Prize, the Purdue University Excellence in Research Award and the Leon Gaster Award from the Society of Light and Lighting (as a co-author of best paper of the year). He serves as the Chair of the bi-annual International High Performance Buildings conference at Purdue since 2010, and has also been a consultant for several architectural and engineering firms and building technologies manufacturers.
