Brooke Van Dam
Former Faculty Director and Associate Professor of the Practice at Georgetown University
About me
Brooke Van Dam, Ph.D., was a faculty director and associate professor of the practice for the Master’s in Journalism at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Van Dam came to D.C. after a post as associate professor of communication studies and the journalism program coordinator at Azusa Pacific University. Her Ph.D., which was completed in 2010, focused on the changing practices of journalists who create news for web and mobile audiences. This research has become a key feature of Brooke’s teaching and consulting, which ensures students and professionals are prepared for the evolving world of journalism. Her 10 years teaching classes in Public Affairs Reporting, Digital News Gathering, and Television Journalism, among others, have taught students how to report in print, on air, and especially on various web and mobile platforms. Before making her way to London and then APU, Brooke spent years working as a show producer for ABC, NBC, and FOX local affiliate news stations. Brooke also worked as an international education correspondent for Fenews.co.uk while in London. Later, in 2012, she worked in web production for Southern California Public Radio.
