About Me

Licensed Physician and Professor at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. Head of the Department for Learning, Informatics, Management & Ethics. Research interests include molecular exercise physiology, innovation and science communication. Elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and have served as member or chairman of numerous academic and industry boards, for example, Chairman of Research! Sweden – an independent advocacy foundation for medical research. Board member of several biotechnology companies and also served as Investment Director of the Karolinska Investment Fund for ten years. Received a Certificate of Commendation for Communication in the Life Sciences from EMBO and the European Commission’s Descartes Communication Prize for Excellence in Science Communication in 2005. Carl Johan is a board member of Euroscience and the initiator of Euroscience Open Forum (www.esof.eu), a large (~4500 participants) biennial international general science meeting on science, technology, business and science communication. Carl Johan has authored text books in biology for 12-19 year-olds and popular science books on the effects of physical activity in adults, including effects on ageing processes.
