Chao-Ying Chen

Assistant Professor at Chang Gung University, Taiwan

About me

Dr. Chao-Ying Chen is a rehabilitation scientist specializing in pediatric physical therapy, in particular the early development and assessment of high-risk infants. She is also a licensed physical therapist in Taiwan and a certified General Movement Assessment (GMA) investigator for infants. She has been working with different pediatric populations and using various approaches to answer research questions that may facilitate early diagnosis. The ultimate goal is to enhance intervention plans for infants and children with developmental concerns. Her experience includes assessing early motor, cognitive, and autonomic performance in infants with complex congenital heart diseases through behavioral and electrocardiographic examination, as well as early brain and reaching performance using magnetic resonance imaging, transcranial magnetic stimulation and motion analysis. In terms of intervention, she has explored early training to enhance movement experience, constrain-induced movement therapy, and non-invasive brain stimulation. With her current research direction to identify aberrant motor signs and the underlying neuro-mechanisms at an early stage of infancy, she believes that her work will contribute to the well-being of infants and families who are in need. Meanwhile, her research portfolio also enriches the teaching materials to educate physical therapy students in managing pediatric populations.
