Ph.D. Assistant Director at Center for Teaching Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University
Cynthia Brame is assistant director of the Vanderbilt University Center for Teaching and a senior lecturer in the Vanderbilt Department of Biological Sciences. As assistant director, she leads the Junior Faculty Teaching Fellows, a program focused on helping junior faculty develop foundational teaching skills and explore new ideas in teaching and learning. She also established and leads the BOLD Fellows program, in which graduate student/faculty teams develop online learning experiences and investigate the impact on student learning. Further, she consults regularly with STEM departments about pedagogical and curricular issues, seeking to foster a community of educators who value and use evidence-based teaching approaches. Brame is particularly interested in improving understanding and use of the research literature on teaching and learning among STEM educators, and she has co-developed LSE’s Evidence-Based Teaching Guides feature and is writing a book entitled Science Teaching Essentials: Short Guides to Good Practice. Brame was previously a faculty member at Centenary College of Louisiana and has a Ph.D. in pharmacology from Vanderbilt University.
