About me

Simon Smart is a Chemical Engineer who obtained his BE(Chem)/BSc and his PhD at The University of Queensland. He is a senior lecturer in the School of Chemical Engineering and a Senior Research Fellow in the Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation. He is also a key member in UQ’s Energy Poverty Research Group. In the Dow Centre he leads two flagship projects: Rapid Switch and Low CO2 iron. Rapid Switch seeks to answer the question how fast can we decarbonise the global economy, whilst the Low CO2 iron project is a technology disruptor for the iron industry and won Simon a UQ Foundation Research Excellence Award in 2016.
