Science photographer Felice Frankel is a research scientist in the Center for Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with additional support from Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, was a Guggenheim Fellow, a Senior Research Fellow in Harvard University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Systems Biology. She has received awards and grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, and the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.
She was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and was awarded the Distinguished Alumna Award at Brooklyn College, CUNY, the Lennart Nilsson Award for Scientific Photography, the Progress Award from the Photographic Society of America and was the Chancellor’s Distinguished Visiting Fellow in the Arts and Sciences at UC Irvine. Working in collaboration with scientists and engineers, Felice’s images have been published in over 200 journal articles and/or covers and various other international publications for general audiences such as National Geographic, Nature, Science, Angewandte Chemie, Advanced Materials, Materials Today, PNAS, Newsweek, Scientific American, Discover Magazine, and New Scientist, among others.
