About me

Frederique van Andel holds master’s degrees in urban planning and architecture from TU Delft. She has worked with Mecanoo and DP6 architectuurstudio in Delft, and architect Toni Gironès in Barcelona. Since 2006, she has been a senior researcher and tutor in the Global Housing Group at TU Delft’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, focusing on affordable, sustainable, and healthy housing worldwide. Frederique curated the exhibition Global Housing – Affordable Dwellings for Growing Cities (2016) in Delft and Addis Ababa and is editor of the book series DASH (Delft Architectural Studies on Housing). She also coordinates the Platform for Affordable Dwelling (PAD) and teaches master’s courses on Global Housing Design and Healthy Living Environments. From 2019-2024 she was project manager for the research project Addis Ababa Living Lab: Creating Resilient Dwelling Clusters for Urban Resettlement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, funded by the Dutch Research Council and TU Delft.

Frederique van Andel is a member of the team that won the 2022 edX Prize for Exceptional Contributions in Online Teaching and Learning , for the online course Global Housing Design. The course, which focuses on the design of sustainable and inclusive housing, directly addresses the critical global need for urban development expertise, with close to a billion people worldwide currently living in inadequate housing.
