Heribert Nacken was born on 14.01.1961 in Heinsberg, Germany. After finishing his school education in 1979, he absolved his studies in Civil Engineering at the RWTH Aachen, Germany in 1986. His focus was on hydraulic engineering, water resources management, urban water engineering and water-energy management. Heribert Nacken completed his PhD in 1990 as a scientific assistant in the research field of water-energy management at RWTH. Afterwards he worked as managing director of “Pro-Aqua Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH für Wasser- und Umwelttechnik” and as a professor in the field of data processing in the construction sector at FH Aachen, Germany. Since 2001 he serves as a professor in the field of Engineering Hydrology in the faculty of Civil Engineering at RWTH. In 2002 he joined the scientific advisory board of the “International Hydrological Programme” (IHP) of UNESCO and the “Hydrology and Water Resources Programme” (HWRP) of WMO. Furthermore, Heribert Nacken was the academic dean of his faculty from 2005 to 2012. He is now the rector’s delegate for “Blended Learning and Exploratory Teaching Space” at RWTH since 2012. Moreover, he was the chairman of the “Specialist Community of Hydrological Sciences” (“Fachgemeinschaft Hydrologische Wissenschaften”) of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) from 2005 to 2016 and was a member in various DWA working groups.
