Ian Carrington

AML/CFT regional adviser for LAC at The International Monetary Fund

About me

Ian Carrington is the IMF’s AML/CFT regional adviser for Latin America and the Caribbean, based at the IMF’s Caribbean Technical Assistance Center (CARTAC) which provides technical assistance (TA) to twenty-three countries in the Caribbean region. Prior to joining CARTAC in December 2020, Mr. Carrington served as a Senior Financial Sector Expert in the IMF’s Financial Integrity Group from 2002 to 2020. In that capacity he provided TA to countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Mr. Carrington has participated in several mutual evaluations and led the mutual evaluation of China in 2018. During the period 2008 to 2012 Mr. Carrington served as the Bank Supervision Adviser at the IMF’s East Africa Technical Assistance Center where he provided TA to supervisory authorities in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda Tanzania, and Uganda. Prior to joining the IMF Mr. Carrington served as a Financial Sector Expert at United Nations Global Programme against Money Laundering in Vienna Austria. Prior to working for the UN, he was the Director of Bank Supervision at the Central Bank of Barbados. Mr. Carrington holds a BSc in Public Administration, an MBA in Banking Management and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
