John Stix
About me
John Stix is Professor of Volcanology in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. He has been teaching at McGill University since 1999, including courses in volcanology, natural hazards, and field studies. He has pioneered innovative teaching methodologies such as interactive web videoconferencing. His research interests include supervolcanoes and calderas, magma plumbing systems beneath active volcanoes, and gases emitted by volcanoes. He has worked for many years on volcanoes in Latin America, notably Colombia, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. He is among Canada’s leading volcanologists.
