Michael Smithson is a Professor in the Research School of Psychology at The Australian National University in Canberra, and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. He is the author of 6 books on topics that include ignorance, statistical methods, and applications of fuzzy set theory; and he is co-editor of two books. His other publications include more than 140 refereed journal articles and book chapters. His primary research interests are the psychology and sociology of ignorance, judgment and decision making under ignorance and uncertainty, statistical methods for the social sciences, and applications of fuzzy set theory to the social sciences.
