About me

Dr Pol Grootswagers obtained his PhD on Nutritional Strategies to Improve Muscle Quality during Ageing. He is now an assistant professor at Wageningen University, where he studies the role of nutrition in slowing down biological ageing and in maintaining healthy muscles. He coordinates and teaches in the postgraduate course Nutrition and the Ageing Body, and he is a board member of the Dutch Society for Research in Ageing.

Dr Grootswagers is often asked by various media to talk about nutrition and ageing. He wrote a chapter for the book Nutrition, Food and Diet in Ageing and Longevity. He developed a calculation tool to assess the protein quality of vegan diets, specifically aimed at older consumers. In a previous MOOC, he taught the module Exercise and Nutrition during Ageing. In 2021, Grootswagers won the James Lind award for his research on a novel nutritional supplement to combat malnutrition.

In his free time, Dr Grootswagers loves to ride his racing bike and to eat Asian food, but not at the same time.
