
Guest speaker, Professor at Qatar University
Dr. Sinan Marufoglu is a professor of modern and contemporary history at Qatar University. Dr. Marufoglu completed his BA and MA in Iraq and earned his PhD at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1997.
At Marmara University, Dr. Marufoglu worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Middle East and Islamic Countries between 1993 and 1997. In 2000, he held the position of Assistant Professor of History at Manisa Celal Bayar University in Turkey. In 2005, he earned the title of Associate Professor of History.
Dr. Marufoglu joined Qatar University in 2008 as an associate professor of history. Due to various circumstances, he had to go back to Marmara University in 2014 to teach and then earned professorship in the same year. In 2021, Dr. Marufoglu was again employed as a professor of modern and contemporary history at Qatar University.
Dr. Marufoglu’s research interests include the Ottoman Empire’s social and economic history and the Arab world during the Ottoman era. He authored several books and articles, as well as presented academic papers in Arabic English and Turkish in various international conferences.
