About me

Dr. Chinn has more than 30 years of clinical and management experience in acute care, behavioral health, ambulatory, and integrated delivery care settings. In his current role as Administrative Director, Accreditation & Regulatory Affairs, he oversees Stanford Health Care’s accreditation, regulatory, and licensure compliance and patient safety programs. He is a Clinical Associate Professor, General Medical Disciplines, Department of Medicine, Stanford School of Medicine.

Prior to coming to Stanford Health Care, Dr. Chinn was the Assistant Administrator, Quality and Safety/Chief Compliance Officer for Kaiser Permanente-Redwood City Medical Center, Redwood City, California, Chief, Quality Management, at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Palo Alto, CA, Chief Compliance Officer/Director Performance Improvement and Risk Management at Fremont Hospital-Ardent Health Services, Fremont, California and Vice President and Dean for Clinical Affairs at the California College of Podiatric Medicine/Pacific Coast Hospital, San Francisco, California. He has had extensive hands-on experience with quality management, patient safety, risk management, medical staff affairs, infection control, and health care inpatient and outpatient operations.

He serves as a faculty member for JCR’s Department of Education and provides educational presentations on hospital and ambulatory accreditation standards, performance improvement, patient safety, and medical staff issues. He also serves as a consultant working with healthcare organizations throughout the United States, including academic medical centers, community and rural health organization, United States Department of Defense and Veteran Affairs, and NASA. He was formerly a Joint Commission surveyor for the ambulatory, hospital, behavioral health care, and network programs, as well as a health plan evaluator for the California Department of Corporation.

Dr. Chinn received his Master’s of Science in Medical Education and his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from California College of Podiatric Medicine, San Francisco, California. He received a Master of Business Administration from University of Massachusetts. He is a Fellow, American College of Healthcare Executives, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management, and Certified Joint Commission Professional.
