Zakaryya Abdel-Hady زكريا عبد الهادي

Dr. Zakaryya Mohamed Abdel-Hady is an Associate Professor of Islamic Thought & Culture in the College of Shariʿa and Islamic studies - Qatar University. He holds a PhD in Islamic Studies from the University of Glasgow (1997), elected as the Vice President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) and in 2006 was nominated for the “Young Alumnus of the Year Award”. Abdel-Hady worked as a research fellow at the University of Glasgow and then at the University of Abertay Dundee before moving to the Arab region to work in the UAE and Qatar.

Dr. Abdel-Hady has published several research papers and book chapters both in Arabic and English, in renowned international journals and publishers such as Springer. His research - to date - has addressed critical topics such as; gender issues, global ethics and values, Islamophobia, the image of Muslims in the current political view, Islamic beliefs’ impact on voluntary work, and issues of British Muslims. Beyond his research activities and interests, Dr. Abdel-Hady received numerous research grants and projects from both Qatar University and Qatar National Research Fund. Dr. Abdel-Hady has held a number of leadership positions, such as the Chair of the Department of Dawah and Islamic Culture, as well as chairing and being a member of many university committees.

In addition to his academic activities, Dr. Abdel-Hady presented and produced several Arabic and English Radio programs in the UK. He is also a regular guest at various television satellite channels and radio stations, such as Al-Jazeera English, Chicago Public Radio, and Qatar Radio.
