UQ's fully online Master of Leadership and Innovation addresses the critical issues facing managers, such as digital disruption, automation, AI, socio-demographic changes, and geopolitical shifts. The program combines several important challenges, including foundational principles that are critical to understand in the experience-based economy and the importance of embedding a culture of customer experience. It also explores value co-creation in a service and experience context, embedding continuous innovation, enabling the execution of new ideas to create value for all stakeholders and the growing field of digital service deliver platforms.

As you personally engage in applying theory to practice, you'll benefit from UQ's blending of contemporary research and best practices in effective business leadership. Prerequisite coursework

Applicants should have a prerequisite bachelor degree and/or work experience as detailed in the application requirements. For the Master’s of Leadership in Service Innovation, same discipline is considered to include the following categories:

accounting, advertising, business, business administration, commercialisation, data analytics, economics, event management, finance, health services/health practitioners, hotel or tourism management, international business, international development/international relations, information systems, innovation management, marketing, management, operations/project management, strategy, sustainability, technology (agricultural, information, nano, bio)

Application requirements

To be eligible for entry, you'll need:

  • a bachelor honour's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below), or
  • a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (see below), plus 2 years full-time equivalent work experience in a dedicated supervisory/management role (of people or projects), or
  • a bachelor's degree (or equivalent), plus 3 years full-time equivalent work experience in a dedicated supervisory/management role (of people or projects), or
  • a graduate certificate or graduate diploma in a relevant discipline (see below), or
  • a UQx or edX MicroMasters® credential in a relevant discipline (see below), plus 2 years full-time equivalent work experience in a dedicated supervisory/management role (of people or projects).

You must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 4.5 on a 7-point scale in your previous qualification.

Applicants with a bachelor degree or MicroMasters® credential must submit a CV demonstrating evidence of work experience in a dedicated managerial/supervisory role (management of people or projects).

FAQs

  • The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) are not required for admission to the Master of Leadership and Innovation.
  • Yes, students in the Master of Leadership and Innovation will have access to all resources available for on-campus students, including UQ Employability and also BEL Careers and Employability (https://bel.uq.edu.au/for-students/careers). Students can consult with our Careers Advisors, participate in Career and Professional Development events and access our virtual internship opportunities online. Students are encouraged to participate in these valuable employability opportunities to further their career development and plan ahead.
  • Students may qualify for certain financial aid services. Domestic students may be eligible to receive assistance with the cost of their tuition fees from the Australian Government loan scheme called FEE-HELP. UQ can also assist international students to apply for Financial Aid from your home country.   • To study in Semester 1, 2023, applications close for domestic and international students on 31 January 2023. To study in Semester 2, 2023, applications close for domestic and international students on 30 June 2023.
  • We have many professionals enrolled in the Master of Leadership and Innovation program who haven’t completed a bachelor’s degree. As long as you complete a UQx or edX MicroMasters® in a relevant discipline and can provide evidence that you have completed at least 2 years full-time equivalent work experience in a dedicated supervisory/management role (of people or projects), your application can be considered. Relevant disciplines include accounting, advertising, business, business administration, commercialisation, data analytics, economics, event management, finance, health services/health practitioners, hotel or tourism management, international business, international development/international relations, information systems, innovation management, marketing, management, operations/project management, strategy, sustainability, technology (agricultural, information, nano, bio).
  • Yes, all students need appropriate English language skills for admission to UQ. You can demonstrate you meet English requirements by providing evidence of test results, study or work experience.   • Great! To apply for the Master of Leadership and Innovation program you can submit an application at apply.uq.edu.au. You will need to enter ‘5757’ as your first preference program code.   • You'll study this 100% online course from the comfort of your home. Because the program is fully online, entry into Australia is not required. Consequently, the program does not support international student visa applications.
  • For the lates on fees and scholarships, please refer to UQ Study (https://study.uq.edu.au/study-options/programs/master-leadership-and-innovation-5757) These fees, charged in Australian dollars, are subject to change and are indexed by the University annually. Students are not permitted to pay monthly and are required to pay by the due date for the teaching period. UQ does not offer Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) for this program. If you are applying as an international student, you will also need to pay a $100 application fee.
  • To complete the full master’s program, you will complete eight courses that are delivered by The University of Queensland. Because the University is based in Australia, the tuition fees for the MLI Core Courses of the Master of Leadership and Innovation are in Australian dollars. There are a few ways to pay student fees and charges, but our preferred payment methods are Flywire for international payments, or BPAY, Visa or Mastercard for Australian payments.   • Designed for professionals, the Master of Leadership and Innovation program fees prioritise affordability. Please note that because the Master of Leadership in Service Innovation is already competitively priced against other UQ programs, we do not currently offer program-specific scholarships for this program. We encourage students to explore scholarship opportunities through UQ Scholarships (https://scholarships.uq.edu.au/) and Business School Scholarships (https://business.uq.edu.au/study/scholarships).
  • The Master of Leadership and Innovation program is taught fully-online during UQ’s standard semester offerings. These are the start dates for classes in 2023: Semester 1, 2023: classes commence Monday 20 February 2023; Semester 2, 2023: classes commence Monday 24 July 2023
  • The Master of Leadership and Innovation program can be completed in 1-year full-time (or part-time equivalent).
  • Students can expect 4-5 hours study per week for each MLI Core Course. Courses will run for 13 weeks. The number of courses you wish to complete each semester will depend on how much you can commit to study each semester. At UQ, a standard full-time study load is 8 units (generally 4 courses) per semester. 'Full-time' is defined as 75% or more of a standard full-time study load, i.e., 6 units (generally 3 courses) or more per semester.

  • The University partners with edX to deliver the fully online Master of Leadership and Innovation program. Unfortunately, learners residing in one or more of the following countries or regions will not be able to register for this program: Iran, Cuba and the Crimea region of Ukraine. While edX has sought licenses from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to offer our courses to learners in these countries and regions, the licenses we have received are not broad enough to allow us to offer this program in all locations. edX truly regrets that U.S. sanctions prevent us from offering all of our courses to everyone, no matter where they live.
  • You can exit the master’s early if your circumstances change. A student who withdraws from the program after completing 8 units from the MLI course list may apply and be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Innovation.
  • Yes. Students in the Master of Leadership and Innovation may take up to ten years from commencement to complete the program. Students will work with their Postgraduate Student Liaison Officer to plan their enrolment each semester, as well as any planned semesters off, to ensure timely completion of their program.
  • Students will be taught by leading academics in leadership and innovation. You will have ongoing engagement with your course coordinator (course lead academic) throughout the semester through email, discussion forums and virtual meetings. Our program offers a number of virtual networking opportunities with fellow students throughout your program.
  • Students can work with their Postgraduate Student Liaison Officer to plan enrolment each semester to ensure any necessary prerequisites are met. Students are expected to complete the capstone course in their final semester of study. The order in which other courses are taken vary.
  • This program does not include live seminars. All courses can be completed 100% online and at a time of day that is convenient for your schedule.
  • The Master of Leadership and Innovation program is designed to transform your understanding and capabilities about customer experience and the economy, which will offer graduates the knowledge and skills to make a real difference in their organisations – often through transformational change initiatives. Potential career opportunities include roles such as 'Chief Customer Officer', 'Vice President of Customer Experience', 'Director of Innovation' and other emerging roles important in the customer experience economy.
  • Graduates will be awarded the 'Master of Leadership and Innovation' upon graduation from The University of Queensland.
  • There will be no mention of "online" on your diploma and it is equivalent to an on-campus credential. This qualification is recognised as a master's degree on the Australian Qualifications Framework and worldwide.
