About the program

  • No GRE required:

    GRE scores are not required for this program. If you would like to submit scores for consideration to strengthen an application, you may still do so.

  • Customized curriculum:

    Both specializations, in machine learning and artificial intelligence and decision analytics, help learners master necessary skill sets and apply them directly to their career interests.

  • Credit for prior learning:

    Receive up to six graduate credits for completed and qualifying data science boot camps, and use them toward the online Master of Data Science at SMU.

Tailor your online MS in Data Science to your career interests by choosing an area of specialization for your elective coursework. These two cutting-edge disciplines will teach you how to effectively organize and communicate critical information in your organization:

  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence:

    Master the machine learning techniques you need to build self-optimizing systems and provide solutions to problems or processes in any organization. Learn to utilize advanced computational algorithms and build platforms that expand the boundaries of machine cognitive function.

  • Decision analytics:

    Learn to utilize the information available at the end of the data life cycle, and employ advanced qualitative analysis to help businesses improve. Gain skills that will allow you to synthesize data; make informed conclusions; and present to stakeholders with clear visualizations.

Immersions

Southern Methodist University’s world-class immersions integrate additional learning, networking and relationship-building opportunities to create an engaging experience for learners. During each two-day on-campus event in Texas, learners get to meet and network with classmates, faculty, industry leaders and employers for hands-on workshops, panels, lectures and informational sessions.

Learners are required to attend at least one immersion during the entirety of their program. They also need to return to campus once more to present their capstone projects.
