American Council on Education

The American Council on Education (ACE) is a nonprofit organization that collaborates with university faculty to evaluate alternative learning experiences, such as online courses on edX. Together, ACE and universities determine whether a nontraditional education program provides knowledge and skills that are equivalent to university-level coursework.

ACE has evaluated over 35,000 courses, including thousands accepted by accredited institutions. While an ACE stamp of approval doesn't guarantee that a school will accept the course, the organization's backing does make it more likely that a school will recognize the credit.

edX partners with a variety of institutions that offer and accept credit-eligible courses.
