Well-rounded curriculum — online and in person

The curriculum for the online master of arts in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness program prepares learners to become mental health counselors who can serve their diverse clients and communities with the care, respect, and dignity they deserve. The curriculum combines online courses with in-person practicums and internships, and ensures that learners gain the kind of hands-on experience they need to become successful licensed counselors. The curriculum consists of a total of 60 credit hours and can be completed in as few as 21 to 30 months. Throughout the program you will focus on developing your skills both online and in person:

  • Skill development in a secure virtual setting: Prepare for your practicum and internship while developing key mental health counseling skills and acting out client-therapist scenarios with a partner in your Individual Counseling Skills Lab course.
  • Real-world training at sites near your area: During a 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship you will help real clients at NYU-approved sites near your community.
