Using a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certificate To Land a New Job

Jessica, a chemical engineer from Switzerland, wanted to switch fields and find a job in manufacturing. To prepare for job interviews, she completed the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt: Quantitative Tools for Quality and Productivity Professional Certificate program from TUMx. Below, Jessica discusses how earning a certificate helped her land an exciting new job in the continuous improvement department of a major chemical company.
How was your experience learning online?
The MOOC format is ideal for me since I don't have a lot of time to go to classes outside of work. Usually, online courses are much more affordable and allow me to keep learning and developing at my own pace. Participating in the Professional Certificate program from edX was my first time doing a professional certification online, and it completely [surpassed] my expectations. The team from TUMx did a great job with the videos. They were very easy to understand and the exercises allowed me to test my knowledge. I also received a lot of support on the discussion board.
How has your learning impacted your career, life, or community?
This month I got my first job in the continuous improvement department of a major chemical company. Thanks to my knowledge of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) acquired from TUMx, I answered all the technical questions on LSS and showed my motivation for quality management during my interviews.
How do you plan to use your learning in the future? What's next for you?
I plan to use everything I've learned and apply it to my new job. Eventually, I want to apply for the Green Belt program from TUM to continue my quality management education.
What advice would you give new edX students?
Keep investing in your career and never stop learning. Take advantage of the many courses that are offered on edX and start learning something new today! This knowledge might help you land a new job or promotion in the future as it has for me.
