
Assistant Professor at College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University
He specializes in teaching the Arabic language to Non-Native speakers at various levels, and has extensive experience in teaching in this field, in terms of teaching the Arabic language to Non-Native speakers for general purposes and for special purposes and for inheritors of the language. Before joining Qatar University, he worked at the University of Damascus. He lectured in the Master’s program in Arabic for Non-Native speakers, and taught Arabic to Non-Native speakers in general programs and private programs in some British universities, including Exeter, Durham, and SOAS.
Dr Al-Afiony has also worked in some other academic institutions as an external examiner, such as Georgetown University in Qatar and others. In addition to teaching at Qatar University, Dr. Al-Afyoni is a member of several specialized academic, professional and advisory committees at Qatar University.
Dr Al-Afiony is also a member of some linguistic arbitration and evaluation committees, and has many contributions in the field. He has published some educational books on reading and listening skills. He has also prepared an educational series on teaching linguistic sounds electronically on the Al Jazeera website in learning Arabic. He has participated as a trainer in several specialized training courses in preparing teachers of the Arabic language to speakers of other languages. In addition to providing, some lectures and training workshops in some centers and programs specialized in teaching the Arabic language. With regard to the research aspect, he participated in many peer-reviewed scientific conferences and specialized seminars in the field, and was a member of scientific committees in some conferences. He published a group of research in peer-reviewed scientific journals inside and outside the Arab world.
Dr Al-Afiony’s research focused on teaching the Arabic language to Non-Native speakers in general, and addressed some topics such as: (simplifying literary texts, extensive reading, readability, individual differences, linguistic evaluation, and analysis of linguistic errors, as well as analyzing linguistic skills in foreign language teaching sequences).
