Art Director & Designer at BoxPlay
Born in China, Xiaoqing Wang moved to the United States at age 12. Initially pursuing journalism and international studies at Virginia Tech, she shifted her attention to graphic design. After receiving her MFA from CalArts in 2006, Wang worked in branding and digital design in San Francisco before joining Green Dragon Office in Los Angeles in 2008. Over the past 12 years she and Lorraine Wild have collaborated on the design of nearly fifty publications, winning the prestigious George Wittenborn Memorial Award twice and the AIGA’s 50 Books/50 Covers award five times. Wang also teaches typography at Otis College of Art and Design, where her students describe her as a “sour patch kid” i.e., both sweet and tart. To counteract the physical effects of endless hours spent kerning, tracking, and leading out type, Wang likes to get her hands dirty making ceramics at her pottery studio.
