About me

Dr Abdisalan Noor is the Head of Unit, Strategic Information for Response at the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Malaria Programme (GMP) in Geneva, Switzerland. At the GMP, he leads the development of normative guidance and tools on malaria surveillance, country support to strengthen surveillance systems, and the use of strategic information for impact, especially in sub-national tailoring of malaria interventions. Dr Noor also leads the publication of the annual WHO World Malaria Report. Before joining GMP in 2016, Dr Noor worked for more than 16 years at the Kenya Medical Research Institute/Wellcome Trust Research Programme where he served as a Wellcome Trust Fellow and Director of its Nairobi Programme. He is a Visiting Professor of Malaria Epidemiology at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom where his research focuses on measuring access to health care; mapping malaria transmission and at-risk populations; and the coverage and impact of malaria control interventions in Africa. Dr Noor is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) and a Councilor of the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) Committee on Global Health.
