Alex Örtegren

Alex Örtegren is a PhD Candidate in Educational Work and teacher educator at the Department of Educational Science within the Faculty of Social Sciences at Umeå University, Sweden. His research focuses on the intersection of education, democracy, and digitalization, particularly examining teacher educators’ preparation of new teachers to teach for digital citizenship. His work investigates teacher educators’ views on addressing contemporary sociotechnical challenges like fake news, algorithms, and AI, while contributing to the broader research-informed discussion on professional digital competence in teacher education. His research spans from democratic education broadly and social science education specifically, to critical analysis of education policy formation and the role of policy ideas shaping digital citizenship education.
