Markus Disse is professor of Hydrology and River Basin Management at Technical University of Munich since 2013. He received his Diploma in Civil Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, where he also completed his PhD in 1995 on groundwater recharge and regional evapotranspiration. After being a research assistant at the Institute of Hydrology and Water Management at the University of Karlsruhe until 1996, he was the leader of the department of River Morphology (1996-1998) and the department of Water Management and Statistics (1998-2002). Moreover, from 1996 to 2002 Markus Disse served as a research assistant at the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG), Koblenz, Germany. Between 2003 and 2013 he functioned as the head of the chair of Water Management and Resources Engineering at the University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Munich, Germany. In 2011, he was on sabbatical leave in the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources at the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA. His research interests focus on process-based hydrological modelling of river basins, flood risk management and the sustainable management of water resources.
