Lecturer at School of Earth and Environment | Te Kura Aronukurangi, University of Canterbury
Dr Sam Hampton is a physical volcanologist and experienced field educator.
Sam is a lecturer in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Canterbury. He is also Director of VolcanicKED, a learning-based company providing knowledge, education and discovery activities in Aotearoa / New Zealand natural environments. Sam is currently Director of Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū / Banks Peninsula Geopark. The Geopark looks to engage people in the landscapes of Banks Peninsula by connecting stories of geology, ecology, communities, and human histories.
Much of Sam’s research is focused on the volcanic landscape of Banks Peninsula. But his experience extends across fields of geoeducation, geohazards, engineering geology, and in exploration geology.
