The University of Maryland, College Park

The University of Maryland is the state’s flagship university and one of the nation’s preeminent public research universities. A global leader in research, entrepreneurship, and innovation, the university is home to more than 37,000 students, 9,000 faculty and staff, and 250 academic programs. Its faculty includes three Nobel laureates, three Pulitzer Prize winners, 47 members of the national academies, and scores of Fulbright scholars.

UMD is one of twelve institutions that make up the University System of Maryland (USM). USM is the state of Maryland’s public higher education system, with a mission to improve the quality of life for the people of Maryland by providing a comprehensive range of high quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities. USM and its Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation has launched USMx to help institutions leverage the affordances of online learning, and give students the flexibility to interact with content, faculty, and learning communities in the ways that best meet their needs.
